US-State Police Sammelserie
Limited Edition: US-State-Police

In the United States, as in many other countries, the police organization is divided into several different levels: While there is no nationwide uniformed police bureau, various national police duties are carried out by agencies like FBI, Secret Service, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Marshal Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Federal agencies often use plain vehicles, but some, like the Border Patrol, have cars and trucks with very distinctive markings.

The next level includes state police agencies. With the exception of Hawaii, each American state has a uniformed law enforcement agency with statewide powers. Depending on their primary duties, this agency may be called the state police, state troopers or the highway patrol. Each state police agency has unique markings for their vehicles.

Next are the county or parish law enforcement agencies, generally a sheriff's department, although some counties will have a police department for general law enforcement. In some states, markings for vehicles used by these departments are set by state law, but in most states, the design is left up to the chief officer in the department.

At the local level, most cities and towns will have their own police departments, while the smallest townships and villages may have a town marshal or will use the county agency.

In addition, American states, counties and cities may have specialized law enforcement agencies like park rangers, airport and transportation authority police and court officers like constables. These agencies generally have their authority limited to certain areas or purposes.

Local law enforcement agencies use a variety of colors and graphics on their vehicles, some of which are quite dramatic. There are even competitions among law enforcement agencies with awards for the best vehicle graphics. This variety makes collecting Busch replicas an interesting hobby where there is always something new.
